Delay Pilot separates fixed compensation from care, refund and rerouting rights. Your individual flight, route, timing and cause determine the final position.
If UK261 applies, your airline must look after you after qualifying departure delays. The care threshold depends on flight distance. This can include food and drink, communication and overnight accommodation where needed.
When can compensation apply?
Fixed compensation may apply when you arrive at your final destination more than three hours late and the cause is within the airline’s responsibility. The maximum current UK261 amount is £520 per person for qualifying long-haul disruption.
What if the delay reaches five hours?
If the flight is delayed by at least five hours, UK guidance says you can choose not to travel and obtain a refund for the unused parts of the booking.
What if the airline does not provide care?
Keep itemised receipts for reasonable expenses. The CAA advises passengers that reasonable self-arranged care can be claimed back where the airline does not provide it.

Was your flight delayed or cancelled?
Eligibility depends on the route, arrival delay and the reason for the disruption. Check the individual flight before assuming the wider incident determines the outcome.
